At FLOWAQUA

We develop and supply technologies to clean polluted water, as well as technologies to purify water to drinking water quality or to make process water for the industry. For every problem of water treatment, we design the most appropriate solution, from the technical, ecological or economic point of view.

We offer both conventional physico-chemical solutions as well as membrane-based solutions for the production of safe drinking water. In the industry, our membrane technologies make it possible to produce drinking water from groundwater as well as from bio-effluent.

INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT

We help industries setting new standards in responsible water management. Our solutions include aerobic and anaerobic wastewater treatment enabling biogas production as well as membrane technologies allowing water reuse, reducing the plants energy and water footprint.

Our track record counts more than 400 references for water treatment in different industries.

Choosing the appropriate treatment process is only possible when characteristics and specific problems for each individual wastewater are known in advance.

AEROBIC WASTEWATER TREATMENT

Aerobic plants produce a high-quality effluent. The organic pollution is transformed into carbon dioxide and biomass by aeration (aerobic). Our aerobic wastewater treatment plants are designed to eliminate not only organic pollution (or BOD) but also nitrogen and phosphorus.

ANAEROBIC WASTEWATER TREATMENTduction

When organic concentration in wastewater is high, our anaerobic wastewater treatment technologies become a valuable alternative for aerobic treatment, since an energy-rich biogas is produced as a by-product during the process, allowing the production of steam or electricity.

An optional aerobic post treatment step combines biogas production with a low sludge and high-quality effluent production.

MEMBRANE BIO-REACTOR

Where space is scarce, a wastewater treatment plant’s footprint can be limited by replacing the sedimentation step by a compact membrane water/sludge separation device, which produces a high-quality effluent and reduces the volume of the bioreactor.

Since the filtrate cannot pass the membranes, it is virtually free of suspended solids and bacteria and ready for reuse or for further treatment by reverse osmosis.

Membrane bioreactor concepts

Membrane bio reactors can either be placed externally, i.e. in an external loop to the bioreactor) or they can be submerged in the activated sludge, i.e. in the bioreactor itself.

Both membrane bioreactor concepts have their own advantages and they have their own range of application.

MUNICIPAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT

We are pioneers in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment.  We design the most appropriate biological wastewater treatment systems producing clean water that can be discharged safely into the environment or reused for irrigation after a tertiary disinfection treatment step.

TREATING URBAN WASTEWATER TREATMENT

Whether it be as a general contractor or as a technology provider, our proprietary urban wastewater technology is capable of treating every quality of wastewater. Our range of services includes long-term operation and maintenance, when local know-how is not available. Also available in compact packages and containerized units.

DRINKING WATER

Our drinking water solutions make it possible to produce safe drinking water for large communities and for the industry. Also, an available in containerized packages.

We offer both conventional physic-chemical solutions as well as membrane-based solutions for the production of safe drinking water. In the industry, our membrane technologies make it possible to produce drinking water from groundwater as well as from bio-effluent.

CONVENTIONAL DRINKING WATER PRODUCTION FOR MUNICIPALITIES

Compact drinking water plant is a reliable and robust solution for the production of large quantities of safe drinking water. Its design contains cascade aeration, coagulation, flocculation, lamella decanting as well as sand filtration. An optional polishing treatment can provide a tailor made and safe drinking water. Our systems integrate all these steps into one compact structure, limiting footprint and costs.

MEMBRANE DRINKING WATER PRODUCTION

Our UF and RO water treatment solutions make use of advanced membrane technology, enabling the production of safe drinking water or process water from any source:

  • Brackish water
  • Seawater
  • Ground- and surface water
  • Treated wastewater effluent

PROCESS WATER

Our proprietary membrane filtration technology produces tailor made process water from any source, and allows closing the loop in the water cycle turning biological effluent into potable and process water quality.

MEMBRANE WATER TECHNOLOGIES

Membranes are (porous) selective barriers that will pass some substances and will retain others. In process water production applications and in wastewater treatment the substance to be passed is water. The substance to be retained can be very much dependent on the application. The driving force for the separation is generally a pressure gradient.

Our range of membrane-based products includes:

  1. Microfiltration and ultrafiltration
This technology will typically retain suspended solids, colloidal material and bacteria
  2. Nano-filtration and desalination
This technology will retain dissolved solids, hereby drastically reducing the salt content of the water.

Water reuse
This technology is a close-the-loop solution, with process water production from biological effluent.

INTEGRATED MEMBRANE SOLUTIONS

The combination of UF and RO enables the production of safe drinking water and process water from any source. The process of microfiltration and ultrafiltration will typically retain suspended solids, colloidal material and bacteria, while RO desalination will retain dissolved solids, hereby drastically reducing the salt content of the water.

The combination ensures that the produced water complies with the WHO (World Health Organization) regulations and make it a perfect and safe drinking water.

Both membrane bioreactor concepts have their own advantages and they have their own range of application.

WATER REUSE

At FLOWAQUA, we combine our technologies from wastewater, process and drinking water to close the water cycle: in order to reduce the water footprint, water intake is restricted to a minimum, wastewater water is treated and recycled into the production process or prepared for irrigation and even for human consumption.

MEMBRANE BIO-REACTORS

Membrane bioreactor (MBR) wastewater treatment technologies for municipal and industrial wastewater allowing the filtrate to be ready for reuse or for further treatment by reverse osmosis.

MEMBRANE FILTRATION

Water reuse technology makes use of membrane filtration prior to reverse osmosis for the production of process or drinking water from industrial bio-effluent, treated in a conventional or in a compact wastewater treatment process.

TERIAIRTY TREATMENT OR EFFLUENT POLISHING

Even without implementing MBR or membrane technology, tertiary treatment and effluent polishing during the municipal wastewater treatment process allow the treated water to be ready for restoring groundwater level, for reuse in agriculture, or for further treatment into safe drinking water.

DESALINATION

When dependent on seawater or brackish water as a source for drinking or process water, salt and minerals have to be removed. Our portfolio of membrane filtration technologies is designed for efficient desalination of the water intake.

REVERSE OSMOSIS MEMBRANE TECHNOLOGY

RO membrane technology allows the efficient and economic production of drinking and/or process water. FLOWAQUA counts more than 50 references in brackish water reverse osmosis (BWRO) in the industry based on RO desalination technology, as well as several references in the design of drinking water plants.
